How to Host an Art Exhibition – Artist’s Guide

Art exhibition hosts and their planners make it look as though it was utterly effortless to go through all that planning and preparation to have a display. Hosting an art exhibition is a strict process and requires a lot of responsibility to go through, especially if you don’t know what you are in for.

Brainstorming

The first requirement for hosting an exhibition is to get in touch with a few artists and ask if they would be interested in being showcased at your exhibit. However, it is essential that you remember that calling them last-minute might give them the wrong impression. So, sending a detailed email first and wait for their reply is your best option. However, sitting in front of the device waiting for an answer will be a significant waste of time, so use this time to start preparing for the event.

Preparing for the Event

You need to start by finding a place to reserve. Doing some research before booking might help you make your decision easier. If you end up not finding a space to do your exhibition, ask around your friend circle and see if they have a spare room that is empty. Somebody is bound to have an extra room, and the room can always be modified to your style and needs. Figure out the other details like catering and other services.  You also need to find out how you are going to present your art, for example, hanging it from the structure, placing on a table, etc. You also need to find a suitable date that all the people attending the show are comfortable with.

Spreading the Word – Scoring a Large Audience

You can use mediums like WhatsApp or social media to spread the word about the event. However, there is no guarantee that you would get the right audience. If you’re still thinking of a bigger audience, you might have to pay for some advertising across different mediums. There are different types of ways to promote your event through social media sites, online advertising, offline advertising, word of mouth, radio, and television.  However, more people means more space. It is vital that you ensure that the large audience is taken into consideration when booking the area.

Decoration Skills – Catering to the Aesthetics of Your Venue

The time is approaching for your event and now is when you must get a little dirty. If you choose to paint your exhibition room by yourself, you need to go and buy some paint and some paint rollers. Along with your new-found equipment, it is suggested that you request for some help or hire someone to complete the task. However, if you are self-painting, it is essential that you take into consideration the designs and the physical damage to the structures that you may cause. But if you choose not to paint, you might want to utilize some spotlights to shine on your painting/art and make them stand out. Don’t stress when something goes wrong, at art exhibitions even the mistakes often pass off as art and most issues sort out by the end.
